Important Update – Please Share!
I want to let everyone know that I HAVE A MATCH! The very first person to go through the full kidney transplant evaluation process has passed with flying colors! We are good on blood type and match 3/6 for the HLA (tissue) antigen typing! There are also no negative interactions between our blood (my blood does not attack her blood). This means my risk of rejection will be quite low. I was informed that in many cases most donors who come forward are in their 50’s and usually the first one is a match. Apparently that is true as we’re seeing here! This is amazing news but we still have a lot of work to do before the transplant happens, which we are aiming to be around August at this time. We have personal matters to get in order along with making sure everything is financially set as well.
With that said, we have multiple options available for you to show your support! Please see the links below. Also, if you were considering donating a kidney to me, or have already begun the process, I encourage you to continue. I say this because things can happen, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison will still take your information should something come up. I also encourge altruistic donation, meaning giving a kidney to a random stranger that is in need. There are many out there; approximately 100,000.
